In the modern world, it’s impossible to underestimate the importance of business meetings. As business people complete more things every day, one eternal truth remains – they only have as much time as 24 hours, thus the importance of multitasking raises immensely. One of the best ways to combine two different objectives is to break bread with your partner/ supplier/anyone else during a business meal, such as business breakfast.
We are going to start our series of posts about those meals, and we’ll open it with 3 tips regarding business breakfasts. But first, we are giving a simple and important advice concerning any business meal:
Choose the right place (especially for business breakfast)
Check the location, menu, music, service quality, how crowded the place is and everything else beforehand. If you don’t have time for that, ask your assistants to do it. You don’t want any disturbances during an important business talk, nor do you want to leave a bad impression. We know that sometimes you can’t avoid poor and slow service and when it happens, it’s not your fault. However, if you encounter lousy service, we strongly recommend against beating up cooks or yelling at a waitress. Stay classy!
Now, even though the following tips can apply to any kind of business meal, breakfasts still have some specific things that you need to remember:
Choose time wisely
Unlike eating breakfast at your home, you can’t do it wearing only pants and with your hair not being brushed when you’re having a business breakfast. It means that you are going to wake up earlier than usual, and the same goes for your business partner. Scheduling a meeting for 6 a.m. might not always be the best idea. On the other hand, don’t forget that you have a workday ahead so it should not be too late either. We recommend you schedule your breakfast meeting for 8 or 9 a.m. That way both you and your partner will have had a good rest, and you will have enough time to do your stuff after you exchange goodbyes.
Choose food wisely
Breakfast is the first meal of the day and given that you haven’t had anything in your stomach for 12 hours, you are going to be hungry. Make sure that you have enough to make you feel satiated but not too much. Coffee is the headliner and should be served always unless one of the participants doesn’t drink it. The menu can include but not be limited to eggs, beans, sandwiches, muesli, vegetables, fruits, and cakes.
Prepare your agenda for business breakfast in advance
It is an absolute must when it comes to breakfasts due to their early nature. Chances are, you won’t be able to think your agenda through in the morning. We never have time for anything in the morning. We can barely brush teeth with one hand while tying the shoes with the other. So it’s always better to prepare your agenda and get everything else ready at least a day before. Forget about your university days when you were able to pull all-nighters before your finals. You must feel and, more importantly, look rested during a business meeting.
To help you with agendas, as well as capturing meeting minutes, taking notes, creating reports and doing tons of other meeting-related stuff, we suggest that you use Meeting Assistant, a Salesforce application created with a purpose of making your meetings become more effective in any possible way. You can download it from here and start your 30-day trial immediately!
